It was much easier to determine before apple removed the indicator LED
from the clear key. On the Mac the numpad always works. In Windows, it
generally defaults to cursor mode rather than numpad and needs to be
toggled. The Mac keyboard's clear key is the same position as the
numlock.

On an Intel PC with it does indeed default to numlock off, but could be
set to to be turned on automatically in the BIOS. Info about the clear
key is helpful. I never maid much attention to it on my Mac keyboard. As
a long time PC user, up until a couple of years ago, I would have never
associated it with numlock..

My understanding is that since it is emulated you can't get to it. You
will have to toggle the keypad on manually.

No, you can get to it... but you have to have a really fast finger. You
need to hit DEL right as the VM launches.

Once you're in the BIOS, you can *theoretically* change things.
However, most of the BIOS options are not visible because they can't be
modified. Others, you can modify, but the changes will not stick past a
restart of the VM. ACPI on or off is about the only setting I've ever
changed, as VPC Windows and VPC 7 default to ACPI on, but VPC 6 and
earlier defaulted to ACPI off.

Modifying keyboard behavior is NOT visible in the BIOS.
