Hello, everyone.

I have just installed Parallels in my new Intel mac and now need to
install Windows. I have a full version of Windows XP Professional as
a .zip file on disc 1 of Virtual PC. After extracting the .zip file a
new file with the same name is placed on the desktop but with the
extension .vhd instead. As I right-clicked on this file a menu option
installed by parallels and named "Parallels Mounter" mounted a
virtual
[C] disk on the desktop labeled [C] Windows XP Professional. This
disk
appears to contain all files related to Windows XP Professional for a
new installation (although I am not sure).

How can I extract Windows XP Professional from my Virtual PC disc and
install it in
Parallels ?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

If the version of Windows XP was not a separate license and was a bundled
version with Virtual PC*, then you are not legally allowed to use it with
any other product ... whether that's Parallels, Fusion, Boot Camp, or any
PC hardware.

Besides, the older install of Windows XP will be for the older virtual
hardware, not your new hardware. You're best to re-install from proper
discs to make sure all the correct drivers, etc. are installed.

* Note: Some stores did make their own bundles of Virtual PC with a full
licensed version of Windows, which is different, but then you'd have the
proper install discs anyway.
