I wish to run or convert old PC DOS archives (Wordstar 4, Supercalc 3, Smart II, WordPerfect 5.1) to be useable in Mac G4/G5. How?

Install XP or even DOS as guest OS on VPC for Macintosh. There's a bug
with 10.5 and VPC that won't mount CDs, so you'll have to convert all
CDs of these programs to disk images. I don't know if VPC will "see" a
1.44MB floppy drive on 10.5, but it works on 10.4. Your best option
would be to run 10.4 rather than 10.5 on the G4/G5 if this is important
to you. That way you'll get CD mounting from inside VPC.

Not quite true with the bug with 10.5 and VPC with CDs. My G5 with 10.5.6
will mount and un-mount CDs and DVDs just fine. Though I always install my
OSes via ISO images for speed reasons. It's annoying actually because while
I'm in XP and I pop in a DVD or CD for OSX it will mount in VPC and if it's
a DVD VPC will issue a warning that I can't play DVDs in VPC. So normally I
keep an ISO always mounted in XP so I don't get the annoying message every
time I swap a CD/DVD on the OSX side.

For what it's worth.
