Many Windows programs use the F1 key to activate the program's help
file, but with a mac keyboard the F1 key doesn't work in Virtual PC 7
for mac.

Read the VPC 7 docs and help system on how to reassign keyboard
shortcuts, such as F1 = Windows Help. I don't have VPC 7, but my older
versions have the keyboard mod info in printed docs (VPC 3 had it in a
README file, VPC 5 had it in the online help, etc.). I no longer have
any version of VPC installed, so I'm not able to readily tell you what
the specific instructions are.

Basically, you have to tell the Mac OS to pass the F1 key press
unfiltered to VPC in order for it to do as you expect. Otherwise, the
Mac OS will first intercept the F1 key and do with it what it normally
does (which in my iBook's case is to lower the display brightness).

The MacOS X Keyboard System Preferences has a system-wide keyboard
mapping feature. If you've mapped F1 to do something (like UNDO), then
you'll have to unmap that key. The only way to do application-specific
keymapping, AFAIK, is to buy QuicKeys and create a keymap for VPC. I
did just that.

If you don't want to spend the money, you'll have to live with this
restriction in VPC.
